The University of Liverpool holds the historical archives of a number of the childcare organisations that were involved in juvenile immigration schemes to Australia and Canada including Barnardo's, the National Children's Homes and Fairbridge. The Barnardos archive includes the records of the organisations that it took over including the Liverpool Sheltering Homes, Macpherson Homes and the Children's Aid Society. The University also holds a few items relating to Maria Rye.
These archives contain a rich and diverse range of material that would be of interest to historians, demographers and sociologists to name but a few. More information is available at

Researchers wishing to consult these archives are welcomed. It is recommended that you contact the University as early as possible to ensure that relevant material is held in the archives and to arrange permission to consult the archives from the respective organisation(s).
The archives lack the resources to conduct searches of a personal or genealogical nature. All such enquiries should be directed to the organisation concerned.

LAC holds a number of different records relating to Home Children, many of which are indexed. The British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa has produced an index of Home Children from the LAC passenger lists. The database is available on the LAC web site. Microfilm copies of Middlemore Home records are also available at the LAC.

The Archives has a book which was kept by the Superintendent of the Russell Farm. It does contain the names of some of the children that were sent to Manitoba. I have found nothing on the Children's Aid Society or the Girl's Friendly Society in the Archives although both sent emigrants to that province. I also checked out the Winnipeg Public Library but they do not have any material related to these organizations.
